New Developments in IVF Treatment Increase the Chance of Couples Becoming Parents

3 out of 20 Couples Struggle to Have Children

Providing insights into the recent advancements in IVF treatment, Op. Dr. Ufuk Yılmaz, the IVF and Obstetrics-Gynecology Specialist at Medical Park Karadeniz Hospital, stated that these developments play a crucial role in achieving positive outcomes in treatments. Just like in the rest of the world, infertility is also on the rise in Turkey. According to statistics, approximately 3 out of 20 couples in the country face challenges in conceiving a child. However, the new developments in the field of medicine, particularly in IVF treatment, have contributed to an increase in the success rates of these treatments.

Significance of Advancements

Op. Dr. Ufuk Yılmaz elaborated on the new developments in IVF treatment at Medical Park Karadeniz Hospital. He emphasized that recurring IVF failures are of great importance, as they not only affect the couple’s faith in the treatment but also cause significant psychological trauma. Therefore, the medical team puts considerable effort into achieving successful results as quickly as possible in IVF treatment. Dr. Yılmaz mentioned that they closely follow the latest technological advancements worldwide and swiftly adapt the proven methods that contribute to successful outcomes.

Positive Impact on Treatments

Highlighting the significant positive impact of the new developments in IVF treatment, Yılmaz listed some of these innovations as follows: “Embryo pooling increases the pregnancy rates. In cases with low egg count, after the development and collection of multiple eggs, biopsy is performed on the resulting embryos, and when a healthy embryo is identified, it enhances our chances of achieving a successful pregnancy and shortens the treatment period. The creation of an embryo pool also increases the pregnancy rates per transfer. Especially considering the high rates of discontinuing treatment after unsuccessful embryo transfers, the pool system is a highly applicable method to increase the success rates per transfer.”

Targeted Sperm Treatment Applications

Yılmaz emphasized that in cases with sperm count and motility issues, they use applications such as sperm-chip or hyaluronic acid-binding tests to select higher-quality sperms, thereby enhancing embryo quality and development. “As a result, we increase healthy pregnancy rates and reduce the rates of miscarriages, which ultimately leads to higher success rates in achieving pregnancies. Another significant development is the ability to thoroughly examine the genetic structure of embryos. Although these examinations have been possible for the past 15 years, they were not detailed, and improvements were limited. However, with the ‘Next Generation Sequence – NGS’ method used today, embryos can be thoroughly examined, allowing for the detection of any hereditary diseases. Identifying and transferring healthy embryos also increase the pregnancy rates per transfer,” he explained.

With the continuous progress in IVF treatment and the adoption of innovative techniques, the medical community is offering newfound hope and higher chances of parenthood for many couples struggling with infertility.
